Dvorák's Sonatina was completed in 1893 while he sojourned in the United States. The work was written for and dedicated to his teenaged daughter and 10 year old son. The composer described the four-movement work to be “intended for youth but even grown-ups, adults should be able to converse with it.” The second movement, Larghetto, was also transcribed by Fritz Kreisler, who titled it Indian Lament. This world premiere violin performance edition includes concise fingerings and bowings by Heifetz protégé Endre Granat.
