Harpsichord Concerto No. 3 D Major Bwv 1054 (Conductor's Score) New
Like its sibling works (BWV 1052–1059), Johann Sebastian Bach's Harpsichord Concerto no. 3 (BWV 1054) was initially composed for another solo instrument. In this case, the original work is even known: it is the famous Violin Concerto in E major BWV 1042. When reworking it for harpsichord, Bach transposed it down a tone to better suit the keyboard instrument's compass. Moreover, he extensively honed the harpsichord part in order to also lend it, in addition to technical virtuosity, tonal autonomy with respect to the basso continuo.
Bach's late corrections in the autograph score were taken into account in the edition. The new performance material in Henle Urtext quality offers an uncluttered conducting score and orchestral parts that are optimally arranged for performance, which are availableboth individually as well as in a reasonably priced set.
