Joseph-Hector Fiocco was born in Brussels. Both his father, Pietro Antonio Fiocco, and his brother, Jean-Joseph, were also well-known composers and were Joseph-Hector's composition teachers. From 1730, he was substitute choirmaster at Notre Dame du Sablon. In 1731-1737, he worked as choirmaster at the Cathedral of Antwerp. In the last years of his life, he returned to Brussels and worked at the Collegiate Church of St. Michael and St. Gudula. Because of his church affiliation, most of his compositions are choral works, motets and Mass settings. His excellent harpsichord compositions are still quite popular. His Allegro is most frequently performed in the violin and piano setting made in 1910 by Arthur Bent and Norman O'Neill. This world premiere violin performance edition includes concise fingerings and bowings by Heifetz protégé Endre Granat.
