A composer and conductor of genius, Eugène Bozza (1905–1991) left us several operas, ballets, large-scale symphonic and choral works, but his worldwide reputation is derived mainly from his many chamber works, written for various instrumental formations with a preference for wind instruments. Concertino Da Camera, written in 1935 by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) was a small concerto for alto-saxophone and eleven instruments: flute, bassoon, oboe, horn, trumpet and strings. This score is for alto saxophone and piano. This Concertino, in two movements, Allegro con moto and Larghetto – Animato Molto, is dedicated to the saxophonist Sigurd Rascher and stands out for its large use of the alto saxophone. It can be technically challenging and has a strong lyrical part. Its author, Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) is a neoclassical composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1919. He composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including Angelique (1926) and Divertissement (1930). He was also in charge of the Accadémie de France in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera. This concerto has some similarities with his Flute Concerto (1934), also published by Alphonse Leduc.

Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov (1865-1936) was director of the Russian Symphony Concerts and of the St Petersbourg Conservatory and is regarded as one of the great masters of instrumentation, orchestration and counterpoint. He moved to Paris in 1928 and there composed the Concerto in E flat for alto saxophone and piano (1934), an authentically romantic work that has enjoyed unrivalled success since its première. Among her compositions for saxophone, three which have been played throughout the globe stand out: the Concertino for alto saxophone and string orchestra (1951), the Sonate for solo alto saxophone (1967) and her Concert en quatuor (1962). A good part of her catalogue is devoted to pedagogical pieces, like this lovely Chanson et Passepied (1951) for alto saxophone and piano which has become a must for players at an intermediate (after ap#proximately 6 years of lessons) level. Quarante-huit Études by Marcel Mule (1901-2001) is a set of 48 exercises for all saxophones by Franz Ferling and expanded with twelve new studies by Mule. Made for intermediate/advanced players, this is a rich material to develop style and virtuosity. Ferling's book 48 Studies was lacking exercises on some tonalities. Marcel Mule therefore added those missing pieces dealing with the following enharmonic tones: C flat major, A flat minor, G flat major, C sharp major, A sharp minor and D sharp minor. He took great care of keeping the original style of Ferling's studies to obtain an harmonious set throughout this book. Marcel Mule (1901-2001) is one of the greatest French saxophonists, renowned worldwide for his work on the classical saxophone repertoire. He was teaching his students how to obtain a good quality of sound and believed it was dependent on embouchure, the emission, the mastery of vibrato and thus of breathing. He wrote different methods that focus on technique, articulation and tone productions such as Dix-huit Exercices ou Études, Exercices Journaliers d'après Terschack or Grands Exercices ou Études d'après Soussmann.
