Quintet: Woodwind Quintet Score and Parts New
Emanuel Aloys Förster (1748-1823), an Austrian composer highly respected in his day and a close contemporary of Haydn and Mozart, is best known for his refined chamber music and his influential role as a teacher of counterpoint, counting Beethoven among those who admired his expertise. Förster's QUINTET, originally written for strings, reflects the poised Classicism of late-18th-century Vienna: clear formal design, elegant melodic writing, and deft contrapuntal interplay. Verne Reynolds' transcription for woodwind quintet brings new life and color to the score, transforming Förster's Classical idiom through the timbral variety of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. The arrangement highlights the conversational charm of the original while allowing each wind instrumentto shine in passages of lyricism and spirited dialogue.
